What Do I Hope To Get Out Of Writing?

I was talking to a friend the other day about my writing, and how I am going to be independently publishing the Last Good Man soon, and he asked me "how much money do you think you'll make off it?" to which I replied honestly "I dont know".

I have no idea how much I will make off my writing, by publishing this story, or over the course of my entire life. I dont really care that much either. Now I am a capitalist, I disdain the socialist/artsy subculture, and yes I would love to make a little extra spending money off my hard work and dedication. But that being said, when I sit down and write a new draft, or work and rework an old story, am I sitting there thinking about how much money I am gonna make? No.

I hope to get out of writing the satisfaction of a job well done, the pleasure of someone writing me to tell me how much they liked my story, the freedom of being able to share my mind and heart with others, and most of all setting these crazy ideas free from their chains that are my mind.

So will I be happy if I can pay a bill with money I make of my writing? Yes. But rest assured that has nothing to do with why I do what I do. I write for me, I write for you, I write for the man on the corner, I write for the single mother, and everyone who has ever needed something as simple as a good read. This is why I write.

Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day to everyone. Hope everyone has I great day, I know I am.

Cant wait for warm weather to return, although I really cant complain as this has been about the most mild winter of my life, still, cant wait for that first 70+ degree reading.

Updates. photo's and shirts.

Hey everyone, how is your weekend going, hope everyone's is as great as mine. A few of updates.

Firstly I sent some of the misc text for my story to an author today, that would be the dedication, thanks, copyright info, etc...

Secondly I am now in the market for a photographer, I need some promo shots as well as a cover pic. Interested, or know someone who is? email me at matthew_von_prince@yahoo.com with MVP in the subj line. Feel free to send samples of any work.

Finally I am thinking of having some MVP shirts printed up. Probably not many, just a handful. Any thoughts/suggestions? Lemme know.

Digital Publishing

So it was probably two years ago that I made the decision to publish my stories in digital format only. It made the most sense for me because I write mainly shorts and there is really no good way to publish a hardcopy of a single short story.

Since that time digital publishing has exploded, the Kindle, Nook, iPad, etc...

Still there are some who will not read their books from a screen. Why? I really dunno, I guess it just doesnt seem "bookish" enough for them. For me that doesnt bother me one bit, I think these devices are the salvation of the art of writing. But some people want to curl up on a couch, with their cup of tea, and flip pages.

So whats your opinion? Think I am making the right choice? Or am I hurting myself by only publishing digitally?

The Last Good Man Is Finished

Yes, The Last Good Man, a story I started 3 years, 1 month and 1 week ago is finally finished. I am now in post writing production. Dedication page, credits, cover, all those sorts of things.

I expect to have the story released for Kindle within a few months.

With all that going on I am also hard at work on two follow up works. One childrens rhyming story and another short story that tackles some real issues in our society, how we look for self worth and what we call success etc...

Hey, what is everybody up to? personally I am just loving summer right now, besides the "work" part of course. Planning on hitting the Free Fair next week, I am sure I will run into at least a few people I know their.

Anyways got The Last Good Man back from my editor. I am giving myself a few days away, then implement my selection of changes and be done with that story. Lots of production work to do after that to bring it to the masses but at least the story will finally be done.

It might sound weird but having that story be DONE actually scares me. That story has been such a friend and such a companion. I have spent nearly 600 hours working on that story, I think that is like 24(?) days. Thats crazy. But I feel like it is time to give it wings and let it fly. So when I do get it published please give it a read and let me know what you took away from it.
